BUILDING MAINTENANCE WORKER – looking to fill this position with a qualified individual as soon as possible!!

Monday – Friday 7:00am – 3:30pm with weekly rotation of ‘on call’ availability required.

Sick time begins immediately with vacation time after six months.


This class involves performance of skilled maintenance and repair tasks. Incumbents generally devote most of their time to work of a single specialized field but are required to occasionally perform maintenance tasks in other areas as the occasion demands. In this respect, the class differs from such classes as Painter Carpenter, Plumber, etc which limits incumbents to a single trade. Duties of this class differ from those of Maintenance Worker by reason of the more skilled nature of the work involved and increased responsibilities. Employees in this class perform their duties with latitude for independent planning and laying out work details in completing assigned projects. The incumbent may either function on a particular task independently or as part of a number of workers performing maintenance and repair tasks of an unskilled or semi-skilled nature. The incumbent does related work as required.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The following qualification(s) MUST be met and clearly stated on the application form:

  • Graduation from high school or possession of an appropriate equivalency diploma recognized by NYS Department of Education, AND:
  • Two (2) YEARS of experience in general building construction or maintenance activities involving application of carpentry, plumbing and electrical trades techniques AND
  • Eligibility for an appropriate level New York State driver’s license at time of application; possession of license at time of appointment
  • OR any equivalent combination of training and experience above

Thorough knowledge of principles, practices, materials, tools and safety precautions of the carpentry and plumbing trades; thorough knowledge of modern building and grounds maintenance and repair practices; working knowledge of electrical equipment, installation and repair practices; ability to operate a variety of power, carpentry, plumbing and painting tools and equipment; ability to read plans, blueprints and specifications; ability to understand oral and written instructions; mechanical aptitude; manual dexterity; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.




Monday – Friday; 35 Hours Bi-Weekly


The work involves responsibility for performing a variety of janitorial tasks, minor building maintenance and repair which may be performed indoors or outdoors under adverse working conditions. The work may involve the part-time operation of motorized equipment. General instructions are received and work is performed under immediate or general supervision, depending upon the nature of the tasks. Does related work as required.

HS Diploma/GED Ability to read and write English. Ability to read and understand moderately complex repair manuals, and instructions/warning on cleaning agents; write service requests, maintenance reports, and inspection reports.
